1. Upset Over Curbs, Daughter & Boyfriend Stab Man, Burn Body

A 41-year-old apparel businessman, whose burnt body was found in his Rajajinagar bungalow in Bengaluru on Sunday, was allegedly murdered by his 15-year-old daughter and her 19-year-old boyfriend.

The girl, a Class X student, reportedly resented her father for objecting to her relationship and for curbing use of mobile phones and social media. Police said she admitted to killing her father to “get my freedom back”.

DCP (North) N Shashikumar said the girl and her boyfriend decided to kill her father on Saturday night when her mother and brother were away for a family function. The boy is a first year BCom student and lives nearby. TOI is withholding the identities of father and daughter as she is a minor.

2. ED Summons Chidambaram in Air India Case

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned former Union finance minister P Chidambaram for questioning in connection with the probe into purchase of aircraft for Air India by the civil aviation ministry.

Chidambaram headed the group of ministers which decided to place orders for new aircraft worth Rs 30,000 crore for the national carrier at a time when it had run up a huge debt and many of the routes it operated on had been handed over to foreign airlines.

3. Family Assaulted in Laxmi Nagar, Man Arrested

A family was assaulted by a group of men following a street quarrel in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on Thursday night, the Delhi Police said on Monday.

The victim family alleged that when they went to file a case against the attackers, they were initially turned away – an allegation denied by the police.

Jasmeet Singh, deputy commissioner of police (east), said that one of the suspects has been arrested and efforts are on to nab the others. “We have registered a case of molestation, assault, wrongful restraint and house trespassing against the suspects,” the DCP added.

4. Top Court Declines Tarun Tejpal’s Plea to Quash Sexual Assault Charges

A family was assaulted by a group of men following a street quarrel in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on Thursday night, the Delhi Police said on Monday.

The victim family alleged that when they went to file a case against the attackers, they were initially turned away - an allegation denied by the police.

5. Woman Set on Fire Over Dowry Dies; Husband, Father In-Law Held

A 22-year-old woman died on 16 August after she was set on fire allegedly by her husband and father-in-law over dowry in Gadra village under Bhinga police station area in Shravasti district. A total of eight persons were booked in the case and the woman’s husband and father-in-law were arrested, police said.

The family members of the woman, identified as Saeeda Begum, have alleged that the woman’s husband Nafees (25), had given her triple talaq last month and their complaint was not lodged at the police station.

6. Unnao Rape Victim Accident: Probe Agency Wants to Conduct Narco Test on Driver, Helper

The CBI has decided to conduct a narco-analysis test on the driver and helper of the truck that hit the Unnao rape victim’s vehicle in Gurubakshganj area of Rae Bareli on 28 July.

According to media reports, a relative quoted the victim as saying that the truck had deliberately sped towards their vehicle. The victim and her lawyer were critically injured while both her aunts were killed.

CBI sources said the agency is likely to petition the appropriate court for a narco-analysis of the accused after they give their consent. The duo have already been subjected to a lie detector test and brain mapping, and the reports are awaited.

7. Saharanpur Murders: Reward for Information on Accused, say Police

A day after a journalist and his brother were shot dead in broad daylight in Saharanpur, police are yet to track down the four accused. SSP Dinesh Kumar has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 each for facilitating the arrest of two of the absconding accused.

“We have formed eight teams and are conducting raids. Though we have not received information about their whereabouts yet, we are sure to get success soon. We have declared a cash reward for information on the main accused, Mahipal Saini (48) and his son, Gaurav (24). The other two accused are minors and no cash reward has been announced in their case,” SSP Kumar told The Indian Express over the phone.

Mahipal’s wife Vimlesh (42) and his daughter Varsha (20), who were detained soon after the incident on Sunday, were placed under arrest on Monday. “We produced the arrested women in a local court and have sought their remand,” said Viret Pal Giri, in-charge of Kotwali police station.

8. Woman Beats Alcoholic Husband to Death with Kin's Help

Vexed with her husband's addiction to liquor and harassing her, a woman allegedy beat him to death with the help of her family members at Peddapalli in Karimnagar district, police said on Monday.

The deceased, Syed Saleem (38), was addicted to liquor and was harassing his wife, Peddapalli Deputy Superintendent of Police T Sudershan said.

Vexed with his attitude, his wife decided to kill him and sought the help of her family, he said.

9. One Killed Over Old Enmity in Rajasthan's Baran

A 30-year-old man was shot dead while another suffered critical injuries on Monday after they were attacked by a group of men in Baran city allegedly over a past enmity, police said.

Shareek and Abdul Quadir (23), residents of Baran city, suffered critical chest and head injuries after they were attacked with sharp-edged weapons and shots fired by about five to seven accused at Anjuman Circle, Baran city police station SHO Rajendra Meena said.
