Hours after the allocation of portfolios to the newly sworn-in Union ministers, the Narendra Modi-led government on Friday, 31 May held its first cabinet meeting in Delhi.
According to a notification, PM Modi's first decision during the meeting was approving major changes in the ‘Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme’ under the National Defence Fund.
The changes under the scheme include the increase of "rates of scholarship from Rs 2000 per month to Rs 2500 per month for boys and from Rs 2250 per month to Rs 3000 per month for girls".
Lauding the cabinet’s decision, PM Modi in a tweet said the changes are dedicated to those who “protect India.”
Other changes under the scheme include the increase in quota of new scholarships for wards of state police officials.
Modi and his cabinet ministers were sworn-in on 30 May.
