Speculation about former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan considering an offer by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to become a Rajya Sabha member have been rife, but turns out he has “no plans” to leave his full-time academic job at the University of Chicago, reported NDTV on Thursday, 9 November.

Earlier reports said that the AAP had extended the offer to him, and the former RBI chief may be considering it.

A statement issued by Rajan’s office at the university read:

While Professor Rajan is engaged in a variety of educational activities in India, he has no plans to leave his full-time academic job at the University of Chicago.

Sources in the party had stated that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is interested in nominating professionals and “outsiders,” and not party leaders for the openings.
