1. West Bengal: Man Shot at in Jhargram, BJP Alleges TMC Hand
A person was critically injured Sunday, 30 June, after he was shot at from point-blank range in West Bengal’s Jhargram, triggering a war of words between BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
While BJP blamed TMC for the incident, the ruling party denied the charge. A villager was detained by the police following initial investigation and a case has been lodged.
The incident took place at Bagua village under the jurisdiction of Jamboni police station, PTI reported. Two persons approached Khagapati Mahato while he was attending a Kirtan (devotional song) programme and one of them shot at him, a police officer said.

2. Wagah-Attari Border Drug Bust Nets 532 kg Heroin Worth Rs 2,700 Crore
A man was arrested on Sunday, 30 June, with 532 kg heroin worth an approximate market value of Rs 2,700 crore seized by the Customs Department at the Wagah-Attari border in what is being described by the department as the biggest drug bust in its history.
Apart from the heroin, 52 kg of a mixed narcotic substance was also seized at the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Amritsar.
The contraband was being smuggled from Pakistan via the trade route. Kashmiri salt trader Tarik Ahmad Lone was arrested and Amritsar-based importer, Gurpinder Singh was detained by the Customs in the case. Pakistan exporter, Global Vision Impex, Wagah, Lahore had sent the consignment into India for Kanishk Enterprise ASR owned by Gurpinder.

3. Telangana Forest Officer Assaulted: ‘MLA, Brothers Have History of Assaulting Government Officials’
TRS MLA Koneru Konappa Rao and his brother Krishna Rao have a history of assaulting government officials, especially women officers, according to police sources.
In March 2018, Excise Department officials in Kagaznagar-Sirpur staged a demonstration after Konappa allegedly abused a woman Excise Circle Inspector for confiscating a truck carrying jaggery prepared at an illegal manufacturing unit.
The Excise Officers’ Association had lodged a complaint with Telangana Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao against Konappa but no action was taken.

4. Muslim Youth Thrashed in Kanpur for Refusing to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’
A Muslim youth who was wearing a skull cap was allegedly thrashed and insulted in Kanpur by some unidentified persons after he refused to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’, the police said on 29 June.
The attack happened on 28 June when the youth, identified as Taj Mohammad, was returning to his home in the Barra area from the Usmanpur madrasa after offering prayers.
Mohammad said that while he was returning home, four persons on two-wheelers asked him to stop after they objected to his way of driving. While the first person asked him, “How are you driving?”, the second person pointed out to the others that he was a Muslim, said Mr. Mohammad.
The unidentified men then asked Mr. Mohammad to park his vehicle on the side of the road and chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’, he said.

5. Man Stabs MBA Student After She Rejects His Proposal
An MBA student was stabbed multiple times by a man in broad daylight in Mangaluru after she turned down his proposal, news agency PTI reported quoting the police. The attack was caught on camera by onlookers from a nearby building.
The 28-year-old man then attempted to slit his throat after threatening passersby to stay away. Both were taken to a hospital by locals. While the condition of the woman is said to be serious, the man is out of danger after undergoing surgery.

6. Teen Stabs Brother to Death After Fight Over Mobile Phone
A 16-year-old allegedly killed his 19-year-old brother after they fought over the former playing games on his mobile phone, in Bhiwandi on 29 June.
The teenager, who is a school drop-out, attacked his brother with a pair of scissors and stabbed him four times, after banging the boy’s head on a wall, in their house at a slum in Guljar Nagar.
“The brothers lived with their mother and two sisters, while their father works as a labourer in Dubai,” said Mamta D’Souza, senior police inspector at Shanti Nagar police station. “The family has only one mobile phone and the younger brother was playing games on it. He refused to give the phone to his brother even after the latter had asked him for it. The victim then scolded the younger brother, who got angry and attacked the former with a pair of scissors.”

7. 20-Yr-Old Found Murdered in SEC 10, Friends Under Scanner
A 20-year-old man was found murdered on a vacant plot of land, which had earlier been acquired for a special economic zone (SEZ) in Gadoli Khurd village, Sector 10, on 28 June, the police said.
A preliminary probe done by the police suggested that the deceased man, who worked as a domestic help at an acquaintance’s house, was strangled to death and hit on the head with a blunt object.
The police said it was not certain if he was killed at the spot where his body was found or if he was killed and then his body was dumped there.

8. Man Stabbed for Objecting to Foul Language in Outer Delhi
A 27-year-old man was stabbed after he objected to a person abusing his brother in outer Delhi's Samaypur Badli area, police said 30 June. The incident took place on 29 June, they said.
Shambhu, a resident of Rithala village, had gone to the house of his elder brother, Sujindra, to attend his nephew's birthday party, a senior police officer said.
At around 10.30 pm, Sujindra's neighbour, Sujeet, who was drunk, came there and started abusing him, the police said. When Shambhu objected to Sujeet's foul language, the accused took out a knife and stabbed him. He then fled from the spot, they said.

9. MP Tribal Woman Beaten up by Family for ‘Eloping’ With Dalit Man
A 21-year-old tribal woman was assaulted with sticks by her family members in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly eloping with a Dalit man, police said on 30 June, adding that they have arrested four persons.
A police officer said the family members of the woman, a resident of Gatbori village, about 90 km from Dhar, were angry over her affair with the man with whom she had eloped recently, but later returned home.
