1. Punjabi Man From Moga District Murdered in Canada

A man from Duneke village in Moga district of Punjab was allegedly murdered at Edmonton in Canada. Harpreet Singh Kang alias Harry, 24, was working as a truck driver in Edmonton. He had shifted to Canada in 2011 on a student visa. After completing his studies from Brampton, he had purchased a truck and started working in Edmonton.

On the night of 9 April, he was traveling home from a countryside in Edmonton when a brawl broke out on the way and unidentified attackers allegedly murdered him. The Canadian police is yet to provide details of the incident and following probe to the family. It is suspected that he was shot dead.

2. Man Arrested for Molesting Girl Inside Religious Complex in Ghaziabad

The police on Sunday, 15 April, arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl inside a religious complex. Police officials said that the man had allegedly taken the girl away from her parents on the pretext of giving her free tuition classes.

Following a complaint, the police registered a case against the accused Vijay Singh under IPC sections for molestation and assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe a woman.

In their complaint to the police, the girl’s parents alleged that the man had taken the girl to the religious complex under the Niwari police station area of Ghaziabad at around 10 am. He then touched her private parts and tried to take off her clothes, according to the complaint. She finally managed to run away and alert her parents.

3. 58-Year-Old Realtor Shot Dead in Noida

A 58-year-old realtor was shot dead on his plot in Noida’s Hindon Vihar on Monday. The two unidentified bike-borne men who shot him fled the spot, police said. While no FIR was lodged in the case till late Monday evening, the businessman received at least two bullet injuries, while at least five rounds were fired at him, police said.

4. 60-Year-Old Held for Raping Minor Granddaughter

A 60-year-old man from Nalasopara has been arrested for allegedly raping his teenage granddaughter last week.

The police said that the accused, who is the 14-year-old girl's maternal grandfather, sexually assaulted her soon after her mother left home for work around 9 am on Wednesday . "He tied up her hands and legs and abused her sexually," said a police officer, adding that the girl, her mother and grandfather had been living in the same house.

5. Police Bust Online IPL Betting Racket in East Delhi, 3 Bookies Arrested

The Delhi Police said on Monday, 16 April, that they had arrested three men for allegedly running an online betting racket linked to the Indian Premier League from a house in east Delhi’s Subhash Park area.

The three were allegedly using a software on their laptops that kept a record of those placing bets and the financial transactions. Eighty people were involved in placing bets when the house was raided in Shahdara, said police.

Monday’s arrests were the first bust by the Delhi Police of a gambling racket in the 11th season of the T20 cricket league. Four other similar syndicates have been exposed across India, including in Hyderabad and Telangana, between 8 and 15 April, according to police officials.

6. Youth Nabbed After Two Molest Woman at CSMT During Peak Hour

A youth was nabbed for allegedly molesting a 24-year-old woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus during evening peak hour on Monday, 15 April. The woman and her 21-year-old friend were about to board a train around 7 pm when two youths, who were part of a group of four, molested her, said the police.

As the four youths slipped away from the crowded platform, the two women grabbed one of them while the other three melted away into the crowd and disappeared.

7. Twenty Cases Against Arrested Taekwondo Teacher

A taekwondo teacher arrested by the police on 14 April, for allegedly flashing two women in south Delhi, has been booked for similar crimes committed in the past, the police said on Sunday.

They said that nearly 20 cases of snatching, robbery and molestation are registered against Sandeep Chauhan from across the city. Chauhan, who was jailed in 2016, allegedly told the police that he flashed and masturbated in front of women after getting drunk.

8. Man Held for ‘Molesting’ 26-Year-Old Bank Employee

A 26-year-old employee of a nationalised bank was allegedly molested on a crowded street in Colaba on Sunday, 15 April. Police said the incident took place around 9 pm on Colaba Causeway, where the woman, a deputy manager with a bank, had gone shopping. The accused, Mohomed Saeed Ali Mohomed Yakub Tamboli, has been arrested.

The complainant, in her statement to the police, said that she and a friend were shopping when a man touched her inappropriately.

9. Gang of Robbers Busted, 4 Arrested

The police on Sunday claimed to have busted an alleged gang of robbers who targeted people by offering them a ride along the Delhi-Gurugram border at night and then forcibly snatched their belongings.

Four members of the gang were arrested on 14 April, the police said on Sunday. They added that the accused are allegedly involved in three dozen cases. The police said the accused assaulted and even stabbed victims before dumping them at isolated stretches.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said the accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar, Birender Pratap, Kamlesh Kumar and Tinku, all in their 20s.

10. Rs 240-Crore Axis Bank Loan Fraud: EOW Files 6,000-Page Chargesheet

The economic offences wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police on Monday, 15 April filed a 6,000-page chargesheet against five persons for allegedly defrauding Axis Bank Ltd of Rs 240 crore. Three directors of private firms in the city had been arrested by the EOW on 16 March for allegedly facilitating the fraud.

In addition to the three arrested accused, the EOW chargesheeted two others and added the section of criminal breach of trust to the earlier charges.
