A case has been registered and the Railway Police Force (RPF) has been deployed after passengers onboard the B3 and B7 coaches of the Jammu-Delhi Duronto Express were looted by unidentified assailants. The incident took place in early morning hours on Thursday, 17 January.
The case has been registered under sections 392/34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Railway Protection Force has been deployed for the patrolling of running trains, and efforts are underway to identify the culprits.
The matter came to light after a passenger filed a complaint through the Railways' complaints portal. In the complaint, Ashwani Kumar claimed that passengers of B3 and B7 coaches of the train 12266 were targeted by the armed men when it neared the Delhi Sarai Rohilla station.
In a complaint, the passenger who was travelling from Jammu to Delhi, said the incident took place at around 4:40 am, according to the FIR. The train had stopped for ten minutes (3:25 am to 3:35 am) at the outer signal of Samaypur Badli Railway Station.
The train attendant, the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and the security personnel were not available at the time of the incident, news agency IANS quoted the passenger as saying.
“Today at 3:30 am, the train stopped somewhere due to (a) signal problem. Some five unidentified culprits entered coaches B3 and B7. They put their knife on the neck of other passengers and asked them to provide whatever expensive items they were carrying. They took their purses, cash, carry bags, gold chain and other things. The Northern Railways CPRO has said Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initial leads in the case and action will be taken against culprits.
