1. Maharashtra 1st to Get Major Manufacturing Investment of Modi Government

Days after the Narendra Modi government was sworn in for a second term, Maharashtra became the first state to get a major manufacturing investment — ₹350 crore — for the second phase of Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. The expansion of its automotive electronics manufacturing plant at Chakan, Pune, was on Monday inaugurated by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.

Fadvanis after inaugurating the second phase of the plant, said, “This is the first major manufacturing investment by a top global corporation, post-2019 general elections.”

2. After LS Drubbing of Congress in Maharashtra, Old Guard Faces Challenge From Youth Wing

Following the Congress’s drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra, the youth wing of the party in the state has upped the ante against the old guard. They have decided to put up a united fight to get more representation for youth faces in the upcoming Assembly polls.

In Maharashtra, the Congress recorded its worst-ever performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, with the party managing to win just one seat. On Monday, when the Maharashtra Youth Congress held an open dialogue with the party’s young workers in Mumbai, participants unanimously demanded higher representation for the youth in the state polls.

3. Irked by Slow Trial, Accused Bangs His Head on Court Wall

Agitated at the slow progress of his case, a 38-year-old rape accused wilfully injured himself by slamming his head against a wall of Dindoshi sessions court on Monday. The man was upset that the court has not yet framed the charges against him even though he has been in custody since April 2017.

The accused, Deepak Chaudhary had been arrested by the Kandivli police on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor.

3. CIC Bench Pulls up DoPT Over Delay in CBI Investigation

The Central Information Commission (CIC) bench has slammed the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for an "inordinate delay of five years" on its part in consideringa state government request for the commencement of an investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into allegations related to malpractices in the distribution of drug-equipment kits to female health workers under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The DoPT exercises administrative superintendence over the CBI. The CIC also pulled up DoPT for not responding to a query by a Right To Information (RTI) applicant, who wanted to know the reason behind the delay to issue a notification for entrusting the probe to the CBI, alleging that the DoPT "sat” on his file for five years.

4. Film Producer’s BMW Tries to ‘Run Over’ Cop

A traffic warden has lodged a complaint against the driver of a BMW car, owned by film producer NR Pachisia, alleging that the man behind the wheel had tried to run him over when he asked him to stop. The car had entered a no-entry zone.

In the FIR, the police haven’t mentioned Pachisia’s name. They are trying to figure out who was driving the car. A case of rash driving and endangering the lives of others, along with a slew of motor vehicle sections, has been registered.

5. Cattle Camps in Maharashtra to Continue Till End of June: Devendra Fadnavis

Although the monsoon is predicted to arrive in Maharashtra by mid-June, the state government has decided to continue with the cattle camps to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water and fodder for cattle. The cattle camps will continue till the end of June.

The government, for the first time, has also set up a separate fodder camp for goat/sheep in Sangola taluka in western Maharashtra.
