Two militants were killed on Monday, 3 June in a brief shootout with Army in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police reported.

The Army had laid a checkpoint at Moolu Chitragam in Shopian in the early hours. A private vehicle jumped the checkpoint. Militants got out of it and opened fire, they said.

The security personnel retaliated, leading to the death of two persons, police said.

The police said, “ In the retaliation process one terrorist identified as Firdous Ahmad Bhat and an active associate Sajad Ahmad who was driving the vehicle got killed. Both of them were residents of Kulgam. Moreover one terrorist taking advantage of darkness managed to flee from spot.”

“Bodies of both the terrorists have been handed over to their legal heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities. Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the spot,” the police added.
