1. Bogus Eway Bill Scam Worth Rs 100 Crore Unearthed

The Gujarat Goods and Services Tax department busted a bogus Eway bill scam to the tune of Rs 100 crores. The bills were generated by May Iyer Enterprise, based in Mundra in Kutch. The GST department has sealed the firm’s office.

May Iyer is one 49 firms currently being investigated by the department, after a stock of billing books of several firms were seized from a firm in Gondal. Firms from Morbi, Rajkot, Gondal, Mundra and Gandhidham are being investigated.

Apart from this, four transporters are also being investigated. Probe also revealed that eight firms were registered at the same address in Gondal, where the bill book were recovered. GST officials have stated that they are trying to identify the modus operandi of the entire scam.

2. Two Held in Multi Crore Kim Ponzi Scam

The Ahmedabad police arrested two persons in connection with the multi crore ponzi scam involving Kim Infrastructure and Development Limited, after 5,000 agents and investors were allegedly cheated. The two persons arrested are Malay Banerjee, the regional manager of the company in Gujarat, and the marketing head of the company, RP Dasora.

The duo were arrested from Jaipur and Pali in Rajasthan, respectively after two FIRs alleging cheating of Rs 13 lakh and Rs 11.87 crore were filed at the Vadaj police station last week. The two FIRs were lodged against the promoters of the company Kanchan Dutta, Ravinder Singh Sandhu and KS Bal, along with their representatives Banerjee, Dasora, Khajan Singh and Pritesh Mehta.

3. Woman Groped in Public for Objecting Swear Words

A 40-year-old woman was groped and her clothes torn by four unknown men when she objected to them using abusive language at a garden in a railway colony in Sabarmati area of Ahmedabad. The incident occurred late on Sunday night.

The woman stated in her FIR on Monday that she had gone to the park near her home as her daughter wanted to play on the swing. According to the victim, four men were using abusive language loudly in the park. The woman approached them to curb their foul language as many children were playing in the vicinity.

This angered the men who first had a heated argument with the victim and then groped her and tore her blouse in public. When the woman’s husband intervened, the men attacked him and snatched her mangalsutra. The unknown men are still at large and a complaint of n for molestation, assault, criminal intimidation, theft and for uttering obscene words.

4. GU Assault: State Orders Varsity to File FIR

A day after the Head of the Life Sciences Department of the Gujarat University was assaulted by a former syndicate member linked to the BJP and an NSUI leader, the state government directed the varsity to file an FIR on Tuesday. The incident came to light through media reports on Tuesday and the government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

Police have recorded HOD of Life Sciences Dept, NK Jain’s statement and obtained CCTV footage of the incident. The varsity has barred the two accused – NSUI member Bhavinsinh Rathod and syndicate member Girish Chaudhary – from entering the campus.

State education minister Bhupindrasinh Chudasma condemned the attack and said that indiscipline will not be tolerated and that appropriate action will be taken against the accused after the inquiry committee’s report is tabled.

Guj HC Grants Bail to PAAS Leader Alpesh Kathiriya in Sedition Case

The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Patidar quota agitation leader Alpesh Kathiriya in a sedition case filed in 2015. The court of Justice AY Kogje granted bail to the leader of the Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) on grounds of parity with other accused in the case who are out on bail.

However, Kathiriya will remain in jail as he was Monday arrested by Surat crime branch in connection with two cases, one of sedition, and another under section 307 (attempted murder) of the IPC, both filed in Amroli Police Station in 2015.

He was arrested on a transfer warrant from Sabarmati Central Jail where he is currently lodged. Police on Tuesday did not seek his remand and the PAAS leader was sent to Lajpore Jail in Surat.
