1.LS Polls ‘Fight to the Finish Battle’: Guj CM to BJP Workers

Terming the upcoming Lok Sabha election as a ‘fight to the finish battle’, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani Sunday urged BJP workers to get into election mode and ensure victory on all 26 seats in the state.

He was addressing booth-level BJP functionaries from four Lok Sabha seats - Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Gandhinagar and Sabarkantha at a 'cluster sammelan' in Gandhinagar on Sunday, 3 February.

“This election will be a fight to the finish battle. There should not be any confusion about it. We have to take it very seriously. Mere talking will not do. BJP workers need to reach out to people to ensure victory,” Rupani said in his address.

Rupani exhorted party workers to get their act together to ensure the BJP retains all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat and, thereby, help Prime Minister Narendra Modi form a government at the Centre again.

2. In Gujarat, Cancer Mortality is 50%

Despite the rising infrastructure, better medicines and thrust towards early detection and awareness, around 50% of cancer patients end up losing the battle to the ailment. Data given by the Centre on the incidence of cancer and estimated mortality showed that since 2014, the mortality rate of the disease has remained more than 50% in Gujarat.

It means that of the total cases being reported in Gujarat, at least 50% patients succumb to the fight. It should be noted that over the years the number of cases being reported and the mortality both have seen an increase. The number of cases rose from 66,952 in 2014 to 77,097 in 2017. The mortality due to the disease rose form 33,832 to 38,983 in 2017. It should be noted that the mortality figures are estimated ones.

Explaining why the number of cases as well as mortality is on the rise Dr Parimal Jivarajani, a consulting preventive oncologist said that the earliest signs of cancer often come too late.

3. Gujarat: Woman ‘Jumps into Well’ with Four Kids, 1 Saved

A 30-year-old woman and three of her children drowned in an open well on Sunday , 3 February, when she threw them into the well and jumped in after them. Her son, her fourth child, was rescued from the well in Jetalvad village of Junagadh district.

Visavadar police inspector Haresh Rathod said that they received an alert at around 11 am that a woman, identified as Divuben Gadhvi, had thrown her four children in an open well on an agricultural field belonging to one Bharat Bachu in Jetalvad village.

Police, rescue teams and locals rushed to the spot and rescued her seven-year-old son Raju. According to police, Raju clung on to a pipe in the well. His cries alerted people working on a nearby agriculture field who rushed to the spot.

4. Ahmedabad Woman Held for Selling, Marrying off City Girl Thrice

A horrific tale of human trafficking surfaced on Sunday, 3 February, when sleuths of Ahmedabad Police Zone 6 probed a case of a missing girl. A woman, identified as Maya, has been arrested and the cops secured a four-day remand of the accused. The police are assuming that Maya had played a key role in disappearances of a number of other minor girls from two to three pockets of the city.

The ghastly tale, in which the victim was kidnapped in early 2017 and returned from Bhavnagar to her family only a few days ago, shook the press conference that the police held at Isanpur. The girl was tracked on Saturday night. A missing persons report was filed by the victim's family after the girl went missing. She returned last week, following which her parents who took her to the Isanpur police where she narrated her plight during her 'missing' months.

She said she was married thrice during her almost two years disappearance.

5. BJP to Launch ‘Party as Parivar’ Campaign

As part of the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, BJP president Amit Shah will launch a national initiative — Mera Parivar, BJP Parivar — wherein all party workers will hoist the party flag at their respective homes. Shah will launch the programme by hoisting the BJP flag at his Ahmedabad home on 12 February .

This was announced by state BJP president Jitu Vaghani and party’s organising secretary (Gujarat) Bhikhu Dalsaniya at a party meeting for a cluster of four Lok Sabha constituencies — Ahmedabad (East), Ahmedabad (West), Gandhinagar and Sabarkantha — here on Sunday, 3 February.

The BJP has formed various clusters of three to four Lok Sabha constituencies to plan election strategies.

Those present at the meeting included former BJP minister Maya Kodnani, who has been acquitted in the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case but is facing trial in the Naroda Gam riots case.

6. Probe Misappropriation of Funds Under Swachh Bharat Mission: Gujarat HC

The Gujarat High Court has directed an investigation officer from Sami police station in Patan to carry out a thorough probe in the alleged misappropriation of public funds by three government officials which was meant for constructing toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The court issued the direction during the hearing of a plea filed by the accused for quashing of the FIR registered against them by the Taluka Development Officer for an alleged misappropriation of Rs 90.96 lakhs.

As per the case details, the FIR was registered against the accused for the non-construction or defective construction of toilets and for alleged creation of forged documents and records by way of which the alleged misappropriation of funds was carried out. The misappropriation of funds was carried out in the construction of toilets in two villages of Bhadrada and Singotariya under Sami taluka of Patan district.

7. So Far, Ahmedabad Gets 33k 'Swachh Survekshan 2019' Feedback

According to the feedback of Amdavadis, the city could be in the 'second' category of cleanliness. For the Swachh Survekshan 2019, the citizen's feedback is mandatory and carries 1,250 points. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHU), through its web portal of Swachh Survekshan 2019, sought feedback from the citizen. Already, 33,905 feedbacks from Ahmedabad have been sent.

It is to be noted that till last week, Ahmedabad had only 13,000 feedbacks and the number shot up only very recently. During the previous Survekshan also, the authority took measures to get the points like downloading Swachhta mobile App, so that pictures of garbages could be clicked and reported.

Ahmedabad was declared the 14th cleanest city in 2016 and 2017, while it improved by two ranks in 2018. This year's ranking is likely to be announced during the first week of March.
