1. Didi Greets Uddhav On Sena Anniv
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sena’s 52nd foundation day on Tuesday. She tweeted: “Heartiest greetings to Uddhav Thackeray Ji and all Shiv Sena workers on the 52nd Foundation Day of their party.”
Banerjee also sent her greetings to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on his 48th birthday. “Wishing you a very happy birthday,” she tweeted.
The CM, who is playing an active role in floating a federal front against BJP with the support of regional parties during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, has praised Shiv Sena’s decision to independently contest polls in future. Her idea of a one-to-one fight against BJP has been welcomed by opposition parties.

2. Met Office Foxed As City Wilts Under Unheard Of Post-Monsoon Heatwave
The sizzling heatwave sweeping the city after the onset of monsoon is a rare event, so rare that even Met officials failed to recall the last time one had gripped the city after the rains entered Bengal.
The moderate heat wave is likely to continue for two more days even though Tuesday saw a respite due to cloud cover. Yet, the temperature climbed to a gruelling 39.6 degrees and humidity reached 85% despite ‘low and medium’ clouds floating into the city from North 24 Parganas, which was lashed by a thunderstorm. The heat spell could return on Wednesday and persist till June 21.

3. Private Schools Heed State Advisory, Suspend And Curtail Classes
The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Tuesday urged all the 383 affiliated schools in the city to remain shut till 30 June so that children are not forced to venture out in the extreme heat owing to the prevalant moderate heatwave. This step was taken after state school education department secretary Manish Jain sent a request to CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon as well as CBSE, pointing out a similar decision had been taken for state-run institutes.
But even before the CISCE’s letter arrived at its schools on Tuesday evening, several private schools had already decided either to extend the summer vacation or suspend classes or curtail hours at least till Friday. Every institute has suspended outdoor activities.

4. West Bengal Announces Additional 18% DA For Its Employees
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced an additional 18 percent dearness allowance(DA) to state government employees from January 2019.
"We have decided to provide an additional 18 percent DA to the state government employees including teachers and non-teaching staff and employees of rural and urban local bodies. This will be effective from next January," she told reporters at the state secretariat, Nabanna.
Banerjee said the Bengal government was going through a "tight financial condition" but has decided to release the additional DA as per its commitment to the government employees.

For a city where cycling is illegal on several thoroughfares and unsafe on other roads, the craving for fancy bicycles that cost a bomb has surprisingly increased.
The new Bike Studio in Salt Lake, part of a countrywide franchise, pedals wheels with sticker prices ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6 lakh.
Sales of mass-market bicycles like Hero, BSA and Avon are apparently diving, but international brands like Cannondale, Trek, Specialised and Giant are tapping a market filled with young buyers who treat cycling as a fitness and adventure activity rather than a means of transport.

6. Cop Resumes Duty With Prosthetic Limb
Sergeant Sudip Roy who had lost a leg in an accident last June resumed duty with a prosthetic limb on Tuesday.
Roy, 37, a sergeant with the south traffic guard, was patrolling on his bike on 7 June last year when a minibus on the Howrah-Batanagar route hit him on Dufferin Road.
The accident left him with multiple fractures on his right leg and pelvic joint. The right leg had to be amputated.
Multiple surgeries at CMRI followed by hours of physiotherapy and exercise helped Roy make a comeback with a German-made prosthetic limb and a steel plate to support his fractured pelvis.
"From the minute I realised I would lose my leg, I got more attached to my uniform. I only thought how I would return to duty... I had nothing else in mind," Roy said on Tuesday night after duty.

7. Biker Killed By Bus, Family Donates Eyes
A young motorbike rider was fatally injured on his way to work on Tuesday afternoon when a tailgating private bus ploughed into him from behind on a congested road in Behala.
Police said 26-year-old Trijit Ghosh, a sales executive with a cosmetics company, escaped the commonest injury in fatal road accidents involving motorbikes because he was wearing a helmet. But such was the force with which he was hurled to the ground that Trijit suffered multiple other injuries that took his life.
Amid the tragedy, the victim's parents found the strength to donate their only child's eyes to someone living without vision. "My son has gone. At least someone will be able to see the world through his eyes," Trijit's father, Snehashis Ghosh, told Metro in the evening.
