Flood-hit Kochi Airport Reopens After a Two-Week Shutdown 

The CIAL had initially said that operations would resume on 18 August, but this was extended due incessant flooding.

After being shut for over two weeks due to the incessant flooding, the Kochi International Airport resumed full operations from 2 pm on Wednesday, 29 August.

In a statement it put out on Facebook on Monday, 27 August, the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) had formally said that the Airport was “all set to commence full scale operations (both International and Domestic) at 1400 hrs on 29-08-18.”

The official statement had also stated that the airlines would follow the current schedule for operations and that all services from the Kochi Naval base, from where rescue operations were heretofore being carried out, would be cancelled from Wednesday noon onwards.

Another statement put out by the CIAL on Tuesday, 28 August, had confirmed that all relevant tests had been completed and that the long wait was finally coming to an end.

The CIAL on 15 August had initially said that all operations till 18 August would be cancelled because of the weather conditions. But due to incessant flooding in and around the airport, all operations were cancelled till further notice.

The state of Kerala is on the road to recovery from the devastation caused by heavy rains and flooding, that lead to loss of over 230 lives and properties across the state on a massive scale.

According to Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, as of Monday, 28 August, the number of relief camps in the state is recorded to be 1,093 and the total number of people living in these camps is 3,42,699.
