Hours after freelance journalist Prashant Kanojia was released on bail from the Lucknow Jail on Wednesday, 12 June, he put up a post on Facebook thanking the various people who supported him and underlining the need to uphold Constitutional values.

Kanojia, who was arrested in a case related to sharing an 'objectionable' tweet against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, wrote the post in Hindi on Facebook, saying, "I am at home with my family and completely healthy... I just want to say that Prashant Kanojia is not significant here, but what is important is to save the fundamental rights given in the Constitution. Everyone has to protect the Constitution together. Different governments may come and go, but the the soul of the Constitution should be kept intact."

Kanojia also said that he would hold a press conference on the matter soon. He also thanked the Supreme Court, which, he said, protected his fundamental rights and "gave the message to the country that nothing is bigger than the Constitution."

Kanojia, who spent four nights behind bars, was given bail after furnishing two sureties of Rs 20,000 each and a personal bond for the same amount.

The Supreme Court on 11 June expressed incredulity at the length of Kanojia's remand, and said though they do not appreciate his tweets, his judicial custody till 22 June was "not appropriate."
