A picture of a Kashmiri youngster from J&K’s Kupwara carrying a gun has prompted fear of him joining militancy, a Hindustan Times report said.

According to the report, the police is investigating the viral picture of Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Kupwara resident who has been missing since last week.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, was quoted by HT as saying that the photo was being verified.

The report further said that Mir used to run a photocopy shop and went missing on 11 June.

The picture shows him wearing a military vest and holding a rifle pointing its barrel towards the ground while he is looking towards the camera.

The photo, according to reports is stamped with Hizbul Mujahideen on its corners, showing the date of joining as 12 June.

The SPP told HT that Mir's joining will be the second Kupwara youth joining active militancy this year. “We will now have two militants including Mir. The other one is also a local from Kralpora area. He joined some 6 months ago,” HT quoted Dinkar as saying.
