Chandi Das, a swimming instructor at a private school in Greater Noida, was arrested on 14 July for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl.
The man allegedly raped the girl late on 12 July when he was giving her swimming lessons at the school in Surajpur, Manoj Pant, the SHO of Surajpur police station, told PTI,
The girl narrated her ordeal to her family members, after which they lodged a case against the accused on Friday (13 July) night, Pant told the news agency. The accused has been charged under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, and other sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“The swimming sessions happen early in the morning between 9 and 10 am on a weekly basis. Children enrolled for the classes are taken near the pool together and are trained one after another," the father of the girl told The Times of India.
The police told the daily that the girl identified Das a day after the alleged incident when they visited the school. The principal of the school, however, told the daily that a committee of teachers and the police had viewed the CCTV footage and "found no conclusive evidence that Das performed the act he is being accused of".
As per the report, the school authorities told police that Das had been working for many years and the administration had never heard of any such complaint.
