1. 50-Yr-Old Man Held for Molesting Daughter

A 50-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 14 May, for allegedly sexually assaulting his minor daughter in Ghaziabad. The accused, Narendra Negi, was later sent to judicial custody by a court.

According to police, Negi lost his job in a private firm earlier this year.

His 12-year-old daughter studies in Class 8 in a private school in Vaishali. The FIR against Negi was registered on the basis of a complaint by his wife, a maid in a play school in Sector 3 of Vaishali.

2. Woman, Paramour Arrested for Strangling Husband

A 24-year-old woman and her paramour have been arrested for allegedly killing the former’s husband on 8 May in Ecotech II area of Greater Noida.

The two were in an illicit relationship and had allegedly planned the murder in order to eliminate Kishan (25), the woman’s husband, who was a drunkard and apparently used to beat up his wife, Lakshmi, frequently. Kishan who belonged to Lalitpur, had married Lakshmi around seven years back and the couple have two kids together, a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.

3. Rivals Shoot Man in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar in Alleged Gang War

On the stormy 13 May evening, the busy Malviya Nagar market in south Delhi was rattled when two men on a bike rained bullets on a criminal, leaving him almost dead. The spot is less than 150 metres from a police booth.

Soon, a posse of police took over the market. Within hours, following intensive raids and surveillance, police teams managed to nab one of the shooters, while the other remained on the run, a senior officer said.

The officer said as per preliminary probe, Iqbal Qureshi, 35, is a wanted criminal and works for the gang of Prince Teotia. The men who attacked him belongs to the rival Rohit Chaudhary gang.

4. Watchman Nabbed in Mumbai for Breaking Into Apartment, Raping Mentally-Challenged Woman

A security guard of a Bandra-based apartment was arrested for allegedly raping a 53-year-old mentally challenged woman who lived alone in the apartment. The incident came to light when the woman’s daughter had come to stay with her and overheard someone trying to break in.

The accused has been identified as Ram Achewar, 35, a native of Uttar Pradesh.

The woman lives alone in an apartment near Mount Mary church while her 22-year-old daughter lives in a nearby building with her uncle and aunt. The survivor has been suffering from a mental illness for the past 20 years and has been undergoing medical treatment.

5. 12-Year-Old Girl Drugged, Gang-Raped in Vrindavan Hotel, Then Abandoned on a Train

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men in a hotel in Vrindavan and subsequently abandoned on a Delhi-bound train, police said on Monday, 14 May.

She was rescued by the Delhi police.

The incident occurred on 11 May, the police said, adding that the hotel fell under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station.

“An FIR under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and Sections 3 and 5 of the POCSO Act has been filed against the accused,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar said.

6. Son Held for Setting House on Fire

A 40-year-old man was arrested on 12 May for allegedly setting his residence on fire in which his parents were charred to death in west Delhi’s Moti Bagh, the police said on Sunday, 13 May.

The accused has been identified as Santosh, the police said, adding that the incident that took place in the small hours of 11 May also injured their tenant.

The injured alleged that the landlord’s son had caused the fire and fled the spot.

7. Girl Mauled to Death by Dogs in Sitapur

A pack of ferocious dogs mauled a 12-year-old girl to death in a village in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, 14 May, taking the toll in fatal attacks by feral canines in the district to 13 over the past six months, the police said.

“Reena died on Sunday after being attacked by a pack of dogs,” Superintendent of Police Anand Kulkarni said.

The incident happened in Maheshpur village under the Khairabad police station. This is the seventh such death this month, they said.

8. Five Held for Killing 15-Yr-Old Girl

Five persons were arrested on Monday, 14 May, in connection with the alleged rape and killing of a 15-year-old girl who was missing from her house in the Krishna Nagar area here since December last year, police said. Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said that on 27 December, a missing report was lodged by the parents of the girl at Modinagar police station.

On 12January, the minor's body was found in the jungle near Mohiuddinpur area of district Meerut, he added.

The police official claimed that after meticulous investigation over several months, five persons: Sumit, Sonu, Ramesh, Rajiv and Aarif were arrested by the Modinagar police and the crime branch today from Modinagar Circle.

9. 2 Held for Killing Guj Lawyer, Mastermind Flees to Dubai

Two people were on Monday, 14 May, arrested from the Mumbai metropolitan region for the killing of a senior lawyer in Jamnagar last month, police said.

Senior lawyer Kirit Joshi was stabbed to death by two motorcycle-borne assailants near Town hall area of Jamnagar on the night of April 28. "We have arrested Simon Devinadan (42), a resident of Vasai-East and his accomplice, Ajay Mehta (38), a resident of Andheri-West for the crime. They had taken a contract to kill Joshi from Jayesh Ranparia, who fled to Dubai a week before the incident," said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, JK Bhatt.

He said that Ranparia had hired the two accused to kill Joshi since the latter was appearing as advocate in four to five cases of land grabbing lodged against Ranparia.
