1. Noida Gang Rape Survivor Readmitted to Hospital

The 21-year-old woman who was allegedly gang-raped and assaulted by five men on Wednesday, admitted to a hospital, and then discharged on Saturday, 16 November, was readmitted a day later, after she complained of internal pain, the police said. Hospital staff however, said she was readmitted only on the police’s insistence.

The incident took place on 13 November around 8:30 pm, when the woman had gone to meet Ravi, an acquaintance, in a park in Noida’s Sector 63, to explore a job opportunity. The park is barely 500 metres from a police post. The police said Ravi allegedly tried to rape her and she raised an alarm, after which two men rescued her. After that, however, the two men allegedly gang-raped the woman along with three other men they had called, the police had said.

While Ravi was arrested on Thursday, three other suspects were arrested on Friday. Two of the suspects are still at large.

2. Another FIR of Fraud, Criminal Breach of Trust Against Ansal Group and Its Authorities

Another case of fraud and criminal breach of trust was registered against North India’s real estate giant Ansal API Group at the PGI police station in Lucknow on Sunday.

In this latest FIR, one Deepti Kannuadia has accused Ansal API of accepting over ₹ 3 million through cheques for booking a 240 square metre plot in its Sushant Golf City project on Shaheed Path, Lucknow, but not giving the plot’s possession even after nearly eight years.

She accused the group’s chairman, Sushil Ansal, his son and vice chairman of the group, Pranav Ansal, and two other authorities – Sushil Singh and Arun Mishra – in the FIR.

Talking over phone, the complainant’s husband, Sachin Kannuadia, said they booked the plot on 16 February, 2012 and paid an amount of over ₹ 1.6 million before the agreement was drawn by the group on 22 March, 2012. “We have paid over ₹ 3 million but the group authorities failed to fulfil their promise of giving us the plot’s possession,” he said.

3. 13-Year-Old Teen Girl Killed In Balloon Gas Cylinder Blast In Maharashtra

A 13-year-old girl died in the blast of a balloon gas cylinder at Ichalkaranji in western Maharashtra's Kolhapur district on Sunday, 17 November, the police said.

Sana Shanur Pathan, the victim, was playing outside her house in Swami Mala area when the incident took place, a local police official said.

As a balloon-seller was inflating balloons with gas, the cylinder used for the purpose exploded, and the girl, who was nearby, was severely injured.

Both her hands were blown off in the blast, the official said. She was taken to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital in Kolhapur where she died.

Mukesh Rathod, the balloon seller, was arrested for negligence, and further probe was on, the police official said.

4. 32 Allegedly Posed as Canadian Cops to Dupe Foreigners; Arrested in Delhi

A fake call centre was busted and 32 people were arrested for being allegedly involved in duping foreign nationals by posing as Canadian police officials, police said on Sunday, 17 November.

Fifty-five computers, 35 mobile phones and illegal software programs along with other equipment have also been seized from West Delhi's Moti Nagar where the scam was operational, they said.

According to police, they received inputs on November 15 about a group who posed as Canadian police officials over the phone and duped foreign nationals on the pretext of saving them from Social Insurance Number (SIN) violations.

SIN is a nine-digit number that is required to work in Canada or to have access to government programmes and benefits.

5. Three Arrested Over Alleged Gang Rape Of Tribal Girl In Odisha: Police

Three, including two minors, were arrested on Sunday, 17 November, in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a tribal girl in Odisha's Sundargarh district, police said.

The accused, on Friday evening, forcibly took the minor girl to a forest and allegedly raped her. The arrest was made on the basis of a police complaint lodged by the girl.

The girl in her complaint alleged that one of the accused offered her a lift in a two-wheeler and headed to the forest where the other two joined him and committed the crime, a police official said.

6. UP Man Allegedly Shoots, Critically Injures Mother, Brother And Sister

A man shot at his 50-year-old mother and two minor siblings after an argument, leaving them critically injured, in Kairana town of Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Sunday, 17 November.

The incident took place on Saturday, police said, adding that the accused was identified as Bhura, 25. Bhura fought with his mother, Mina after which he shot at her, his sister Asma, and brother, Usman, police said.

The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital and the accused is at large, they said.

Police said a search was launched to arrest Bhura.

7. Punjab: Moga Man Held in Theft Case Found Dead Inside Lock-Up

A 24-year-old man, who was arrested in a theft case, was found dead inside the Moga city-1 police station lock-up Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Philips Masih alias Mani of Zira road in Moga.

While the police claimed that he allegedly hanged himself to death, the victim’s family alleged that he died because of the police torture. A judicial probe has been initiated into the matter.

Police said that Philips was arrested in connection with a theft case Friday and was named in two FIRs earlier in theft cases. Philips was found dead around 4.30 am.

8. Pune: 19-Yr-Old Engineering Student Dies in Two-Wheeler Mishap, Classmate Injured

A 19-year-old engineering student died in an accident after his motorcycle skidded while crossing the Katraj tunnel. The pillion rider, Rutwik Satishkumar Ranjan (19), also sustained fractures and has been admitted to a private hospital.

Police have registered a case against the deceased student, Vaibhavraj Bibinkumar, on charges of rash driving, causing grievous hurt and endangering life. Neither student was wearing a helmet when the accident took place, said police.

Both Vaibhavraj and Rutwik are first year students at the Sinhagad College of Engineering, said Assistant Police Inspector M S Deshmukh.

9. Ahmedabad: 3 Held for Possessing Drugs Worth Rs 61 Lakh

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested three persons, including a catering staff employed with the Indian Railways, for possessing cocaine and Mephedrone drugs worth Rs 61 lakh in Kalupur area of Ahmedabad on Saturday, 16 November.

According to police, the accused were nabbed near Moti Mahal hotel in Kalupur area of Ahmedabad on Saturday night when they were smuggling the contraband drugs in exchange of cash. The accused are Ramesh Rathod (49), a native of Mumbai in Maharashtra, Azharuddin Sheikh (32), a resident of Karanj in Ahmedabad and Arbaz Qureshi (20), also a native of Karanj.
