The woman who Hamid Ansari had sneaked into Pakistan to rescue – which eventually led him to spend six years in captivity – reportedly testified in his favour in the court.
However, Ansari, who had befriended this woman over Facebook, never got the chance to meet her, Hindustan Times reported.
“The girl for whom he went to Pakistan actually testified in his favour, that he came to meet her but he was (still) put in jail,”Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson, External Affairs ministry said, reported Hindustan Times.
The 33-year-old went to Pakistani to meet his online friend in 2012 and was held by Pakistani authority on charges of espionage and possessing fake documents, and only was recently released.
‘Never Fall in Love On Facebook’
After reaching his residence in Mumbai on Thursday, 20 December, Ansari advised people to 'never fall in love on Facebook', reported The Indian Express.
He also said that one should always follow the legal process for everything, and that he should have followed it too.
“Never fall in love on Facebook. I learnt this lesson that one should never hide anything from their parents, even if they scold you. I should have never been swayed by emotions. There is a legal process for everything and I should have followed it,”Hamid Ansari told The Indian Express
Hamid Ansari came back to India on Tuesday, 18 December, after being held captive in the neighbouring country for six years and now looks forward to a new beginning.
