Protests in J&K as Minor Girl Dies After Being Hit by Army Vehicle

The driver of the vehicle has been detained and the vehicle has been seized, police said.

A minor girl was killed on 21 July in south Kashmir's Shopian district after allegedly being hit by an army vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle has been detained and the vehicle has been seized, police said.

Arooba Farooq, 12, a resident of Aglar Zainapora area of the district, was hit and injured by the Army vehicle near her residence this morning, a police spokesman said. He said Arooba was taken to the Zainapora sub-district hospital in the same vehicle, but she was declared brought dead.

People took to the streets demanding punishment for the driver. Over 20 people were injured when protesters clashed with paramilitary forces, The Indian Express reported.

The report added that pellets and teargas shells were used to disperse the crowd. Shopian SP Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar told The Indian Express that an FIR against the Army has been lodged.
