An autopsy has revealed that the foetus, whose head was left inside the mother’s womb by nurses who allegedly “pulled too hard” during delivery on 6 January at a hospital in Jodhpur, also had its legs fractured and liver ruptured, Hindustan Times reported. The father has alleged that the two male staff who attempted the delivery were drunk at the time, the report further states.

One male nurse Amrit Lal has been arrested while Jhujhaar Singh is on the run, NDTV reported. Singh allegedly helped Lal cover up the crime.

“In order to bring the baby out, the nursing staff applied so much force that it not only broke into two parts but also caused multiple fractures in legs and liver got burst. We also have carried out a floating test of lungs which revealed that the baby was dead.”
Dr Surendra Duggar, Postmodern Examiner, to Hindustan Times

The doctor in charge, Nikhil Sharma, has been removed from his post, the NDTV report states. The medical staff performed the delivery without informing him.

The mother was reportedly referred to a hospital in Jaisalmer after the incident, and then transferred to Jodhpur, where the head of the foetus was removed from her womb. The family has asked for quick action on the arrest of the staff members.

Speaking to ANI, Dr Ravindra Sankhla of the Jawahar Hospital in Jaisalmer said:

“The reports from the Ramgarh health centre stated that delivery had been done. Also, the family didn’t inform that the head of the baby was inside the womb. On examining her, I found the placenta to be hard and referred her to Jodhpur.”

The doctors in Jodhpur then performed an operation and found the head of the foetus in the mother's womb.

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has taken cognisance of the case sought a report from Jaisalmer Police and Chief Medical Health Officer, the news agency reported. The state Health Minister Raghu Sharma told Hindustan Times that a committee has been constituted to probe the crime.
