At least five Kashmiri students, who have been expelled or suspended from educational institutions for controversial social media activity following the Pulwama attack, are recipients of the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
An Indian Express report states that five institutes, where Kashmiri students came under attack after the Pulwama incident, are also covered under the scheme.
Under the PMSSS, Kashmiri students receive admission in colleges and universities across the country, based on merit. The tuition and boarding fees are also paid for.
The report suggests that Geeta Engineering College in Panipat and Moradabad Institute of Technology (MIT), which saw protests against their Kashmiri students; and Quantum University in Roorkee, Bharat Institute of Technology in Meerut, and Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University in Gurgaon which expelled students for social media activity, are also covered under the scheme.
Three out of the seven Kashmiri students expelled by Quantum University for posting objectionable content, were admitted through PMSSS.
Since the Pulwama incident, reports of attack on Kashmiri students have come to light. A couple of Dehradun-based colleges have also denied admission to students from Kashmir in the upcoming academic session.
