The Lalit Modi saga seems never-ending.
A major new development has come to the fore – apparently former BCCI Chief N Srinivasan’s alleged close associate wrote a letter to the government on February 11. In the letter, the close aide, Neeraj Gunde, accused Lalit Modi of trying to influence the judicial process, as also claiming that there was a nexus between Modi, former IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the Union Law Ministry forwarded the letter to the Chief Justice of India in May.
According to CNN IBN, Gunde has claimed to have accessed mails sent by Lalit Modi, which implicate him in trying to influence the judicial process in the case against Modi’s rival N Srinivasan.
This development comes a day after pictures emerged of Mumbai Police Chief Rakesh Maria with Lalit Modi in London. Maria had met Modi in July last year when he’d gone to London for a conference. The police chief claims that Modi’s lawyers had contacted him to complain about Modi receiving threats from the underworld.
The conversation reportedly lasted 10 to 15 minutes – at the end of which Maria had suggested that Modi come to Mumbai to file a complaint.
Maria reportedly filed a confidential report to the Director General of Police (DGP) as well as the Home Department keeping them in the loop.
