A brand new political party has joined the fray in Tamil Nadu, amid the ongoing political tussle. After quitting Deepa Jayakumar’s new political party, her husband Madhavan has now floated a political outfit of his own. The party, named MGR Jayalalithaa Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MJDMK) was launched on 21 April.

Jayakumar, the niece of late AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, had launched her party, the MGR Amma Deepa Peravai, on 24 February. Jayakumar was supposed to contest on her aunt’s seat in the RK Nagar bypoll – that was later cancelled due to cash-for-votes allegations.

According to a New Indian Express report, Madhavan exited his wife’s party in March, a few weeks before the RK bypoll, alleging that it was being taken over by “evil forces”. He stated that he had “no differences” with his wife.
