Wanted Gangster Gunned Down in an Encounter Near Hyderabad

A wanted gangster, reportedly identified as Nayeemuddin, was killed in the encounter.

On Monday, a house in Shadnagar area on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Telangana was surrounded by security forces, who fired shots.

A wanted gangster, reportedly identified as Nayeemuddin was killed in the encounter. Another person with him was also killed while the driver of the car he was traveling in escaped, the police said. The gangster was earlier a member of a Maoist squad and was wanted in several cases including the gunning down of an IPS officer in 1993.

The local police was contacted based on an input. The team came here to check if the information was right. The moment they saw the police team, the driver who was driving an Endeavour car, stopped, opened fire and ran away. The person who was sitting inside the car also began firing and the police team retaliated in self defence. The person who died is gangster Naeem, who has been involved in various cases in the past. An AK 47 and a pistol were recovered from the site.

The operation took place in the Millennium Township area, 50 km from Hyderabad, in Mahabubnagar district.

The driver of the car is missing and the police is on a lookout for him, SP Rajeshwari said.
