Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday, 12 August, said that the burning of a copy of the Constitution of India was done at the behest of those in power at the Centre.

In a tweet in Hindi, the senior Aam Aadmi Party leader said: "The copy of the Constitution burnt at a place (Jantar Mantar) that is used as a platform by the people to raise their voices to protect the Constitution. Those involved in the crime are moving freely. The message is clear -- the incident took place on the instructions of those in power at the Centre."

In a video clipping of the incident, members of a group are seen protesting on the Parliament Street during which they burned the copy of the Constitution and raised slogans against Dalit icon B R Ambedkar, considered the Father of the Indian Constitution, and certain communities.

Delhi Police on Friday, 10 august, registered a case against Youth for Equality organisation regarding the crime.
