Youtuber Maridhas has left social media divided with #ISupportMaridhas and #MentalMaridas after his recent video, ‘Is DMK influenced by Pakistan?’ The video that clocked over 167,285 views (as of 27 August) has irked the opposition party in Tamil Nadu.

On Monday, RS Bharathi, MP and DMK secretary, wrote a complaint to the Chennai police commissioner demanding action against him under Section 505(2) of the IPC and IT Act for spreading false information about their party. Just a few days ago, DMK received flak for a statement made by a party spokesperson on live TV.

Journalists and citizens of Chennai on Tuesday, condemned the media black-out in Jammu and Kashmir and said prevention of news reporting from the region, violates the freedom of press and right to be informed of citizens. They demanded that no restriction should be imposed on journalists from Jammu and Kashmir.

Popular Carnatic singer and activist TM Krishna said that restricting media during times of conflict sets a dangerous precedent. “The purpose of the press is to ensure that multiple voices can be heard. It is not here to tell the story that only the government has to say,” he said. He further added that transmission of information from Jammu and Kashmir has been prevented systematically.

3. ‘Amma Patrol’ in Chennai Launched to Ensure Safety of Women and Children

The Amma Patrol vehicles, named after late CM Jayalalithaa who was popularly referred to as Amma, will be operated in areas where crimes against women have been reported earlier.

Police patrol vehicles in Chennai received a new addition of pink-coloured Toyota Innova cars as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami launched women and children-friendly patrol service in the city. The launch of new patrol vehicles was a part of a slew of inaugurations and unveiling that the chief minister undertook on Monday before he left on his fortnight-long US-UK tour.

‘Amma Patrol’ will provide ready response at the scene of crimes against women and girl children. The chief minister launched a batch of 40 new vehicles purchased at a cost of Rs 6.8 crore taken from the Nirbhaya Fund.

4. Army Soldier Ends Life After Killing Colleague in Chennai Camp

A 22-year-old army rifleman allegedly shot his senior officer and later killed himself in the early hours of Tuesday at the army camp in Chennai. Preliminary investigations suggested that the senior officer may have reprimanded the rifleman for being lethargic on duty enraged by which the latter took the extreme step.

However, ex-servicemen say incidents like this could be due to a culmination of a series of ill treatment that is meted out by senior army officers – a common excess within the armed forces.

5. Tamil Movie Director Alleges Harassment by Chennai Traffic Policemen

A Kollywood movie director, also a cancer survivor, was allegedly harassed by two traffic police personnel on Monday. After the director took to the social media to post the images of the police personnel, the senior police officers have initiated an inquiry.

In the facebook post, Director Ramana mentioned that his car was stopped by the constable though he did not violate any traffic rules. When he refused to pay the penalty, he was asked to hand over his driving licence to the constable. The constable, in turn, handed it over to the sub-inspector. When Ramana tried speaking to the sub-inspector, he allegedly asked him not to come close, lest he would 'catch the disease.'
