Earlier, Khan had pledged to match every step India takes towards Pakistan with two, in his first speech after declaring victory.

“We want to improve our relations with India, if their leadership also wants it. This blame game that whatever goes wrong in Pakistan is because of India and vice versa brings us back to square one,” Khan had said in his speech.

On 2 August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a phone call to congratulate the newly inducted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief.

In the phone call, Modi had said that India is ready to enter a new era of relations with Islamabad. “Both countries should adopt a joint strategy for progress in bilateral ties,” IANS reported him saying.
