BJP MP Pragya Thakur has called Nathuram Godse a ‘deshbhakt’ (patriot) once again, and this time, on the floor of Lok Sabha.

On Wednesday, 27 November, Thakur interrupted DMK member A Raja when he was citing a statement of Godse on why he killed Mahatma Gandhi, during a discussion on the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, when Thakur shouted, “You cannot give the example of a ‘deshbhakt’.”

This created much ruckus in the Parliament.

On Thursday, the party cracked the whip on Thakur, barring her from attending its parliamentary party meeting and axing her from a consultative committee on defence.

Later, 50 MPs wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker, seeking to censure Thakur for the remark.

Meanwhile, Congress condemned her remark and asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi will do the same.

When Thakur had made a similar statement during the Lok Sabha election campaign, PM Modi had later said that he will “never be able to forgive her fully.”
