1. K’taka Cong MLA JN Ganesh Held for ‘Assaulting’ MLA Anand Singh

Congress MLA JN Ganesh, on the run after allegedly assaulting fellow MLA Anand Singh during a brawl at a resort near Bengaluru, was picked up from Sohna in Gujarat on Wednesday, 20 February.

Home Minister MB Patil said that Ganesh would be presented in a Ramanagara court on Thursday.

“Congress MLA JN Ganesh was held by our police at 2 pm in Somnath, Gujarat, today. He will be brought to Bengaluru later today. He will be produced before Ramnagar court tomorrow,” Patil told ANI.

After an alleged altercation at Eagleton Resort on 19 January, where the Congress party had herded its MLAs to keep them safe from BJP’s poaching efforts, Kampli MLA Ganesh has been missing from the public eye for a month now.

Thirty-six years after the Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas) programme was conceived, the indigenous fighter plane is combat-ready. On 20 February, on the inaugural day of the Aero India 2019, DRDO chief G Sateesh Reddy handed over the release of service certificate to Indian Air Force Chief BS Dhanoa.

Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa said the FOC was a major milestone.

“You saw how much the aircraft (LCA) could fly and the number of sorties it could generate during exercise of Gagan Shakti. In February this year, in Vayu Shakti we showed you as to how accurately this aircraft could dispense weapons on the target. It can not only sustain a very high sortie rate but also carry out very accurate weapon delivery like it was shown in this exercise in both air to ground and air to air modes,” je said.

Sumalatha, actress and wife of late actorpolitician MH Ambareesh, met Congress legislature party leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah here on Wednesday, 20 February, triggering another round of political ripples within the party and its ruling ally, the JD(S).

Sumalatha said she met Siddaramaiah to convey to him her readiness to contest Lok Sabha elections from Mandya on a Congress ticket and that he told her he’d consider her plea only after there is some clarity over the seatsharing arrangement.

“Ever since my husband’s death, there has been growing pressure from fans and Congress supporters that I contest from Mandya in the upcoming polls. I don’t want to disappoint them,” she said.

4. Audiogate: BS Yeddyurappa Approaches HC Seeking Quashing of FIR Against Him

Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday, 20 February filed a petition in the Kalburgi bench of the Karnataka High Court seeking the quashing of an FIR registered against him in the recent audiogate scandal. The HC has reserved its order in the matter.

This development comes after Yeddyurappa along with his co-accused, secured anticipatory bail from a special Bengaluru court on Saturday in connection with the case.

Yeddyurappa, fellow party MLAs Shivanagouda, Preetham Gowda and Yeddyurappa’s advisor Marakal have been booked by Devdurga Police Station in Raichur district under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The FIR was registered on February 11 based on a complaint by Sharanagouda, son of Gurmitkal MLA Naganagouda Kandkur.

5. Jailed for Wife’s Murder, Man Escapes to Kill Second Wife

Shankar was convicted and sentenced for life for murdering his wife. In a bizarre turn of events, after serving 11 years behind the bars, he escaped and returned to kill his second wife.

He brought her to a lodge in Majestic, went out shopping with her and bought her all she wanted. Shankar then murdered her slitting her throat. He is on the run.
Deceased Renuka (31), is a native of Hassan and the accused husband, Shankar (41) is from Kolar. Renuka had married Shankar after the death of her husband.  Upparpet police have formed a team to nab him.
