1. Landlord Abducts Tenant’s 5-yr-old son, Demands Rs 35 lakh Ransom

A five-year-old boy, abducted for a ransom of Rs 35 lakh, was rescued after 36 hours in captivity, after police shot at and injured one of his abductors in west Bengaluru.
Chandan, the only son of Manjunathnagar residents Rajesh M and Malashree, and a kindergarten student of a private school near his residence, was allegedly abducted by his father's employer, landlord and neighbour, around 12.15pm on 28 January.

The KP Agrahara police returned the boy to his parents in the early hours of Tuesday. Abhishek C, Rajesh's employer, allegedly hatched the abduction plan as he was aware that Chandan's father Rajesh had recently sold his ancestral property in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. After his father Chandra Rao's death, Abhishek had taken over his father's travel business and also invested in a Kannada film, titled Battasu, which never saw the light of day.

4. Maldivian Drug Peddler Caught Secretly Filming NCB Office

A 35-year-old suspected drug peddler from the Maldives was caught secretly filming the proceedings inside the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) office. Anil Ahmed, of Marathalli, had been arrested by the NCB for smuggling hash oil, LSD, meth and marijuana in two cases registered in 2016 and 2017.

The NCB said he supplied drugs to tourists back home with the help of a Nigerian accomplice. Ahmed was booked under the NDPS Act and remanded in judicial custody. Officials also seized a car he used in drug peddling.

He, however, came out on bail recently and even obtained court orders for the release of his car. On Monday, he walked into the NCB office and met the officials for the vehicle's release. But he failed to produce the court orders. He then started pleading and arguing with them. A senior official found his behaviour suspicious and asked the staff to frisk him. Sleuths found a mobile phone whose video camera was on.

Three-year-old Nature Adventure Camp at Kanakapura, near Bengaluru, came under scrutiny on Monday after a Facebook post that went viral claimed that a woman was severely injured after suffering a fall while doing an activity there.

The post was written by Divyansh Gupta (30), who said that his wife is now in serious condition due to the camp’s negligent staff and sub-standard safety equipment.

The incident happened, Divyash wrote in the post, when they were doing ‘high rope activities’ on Sunday. They were doing an obstacle course of sorts, and the second activity was to cross a Burma loop bridge. This is essentially a ‘bridge’ where instead of planks there are dangling rope loops. You can hold on to the parallel ropes on the side, from which these loops are suspended.
