Jawan Escaped Abduction Bid in Budgam With Family’s Help: Report

The Defence Ministry, meanwhile, said the reports about the abduction were “incorrect” and that Yaseen was safe.

Army jawan Mohammad Yaseen, who was believed to have been abducted on Friday night, 8 March, evaded abduction by running away from home, reported Hindustan Times.

As one militant entered Yaseen’s house, in Qazipora village in Budgam, and two others stood guard, his father cried for help and a scuffle ensued between, said the report in Hindustan Times .

Yaseen, then, reportedly managed to flee as one of the gunmen chased him. The report also said that Yaseen returned home at midnight and was taken to the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) centre in the morning.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Yaseen’s father, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, said that the militants had come to take his son away. Another relative confirmed that the bid to kidnap the jawan failed as the family raised an alarm.

The villagers reportedly informed police and Indian Army about the incident.

Ministry of Defence Calls Abduction Reports ‘Incorrect’

However, on Saturday morning, the Ministry of Defence said media reports of “the abduction of a serving Army soldier, Mohammad Yaseen” were “incorrect”. According to the Defence Spokesperson Twitter handle, “the individual is safe.”

The ministry also asked for speculation regarding the jawan to be avoided.
