Family members of three patients, who breathed their last on Tuesday, 29 May, in Gwalior’s Jaya Arogya hospital, protested outside the hospital premises alleging negligence by the administration, reported ANI.

According to the families of the deceased, there was a power cut in the hospital at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, due to which the ventilators stopped working and the oxygen supply was disrupted.

The family members claim that they raised an alarm with the hospital authorities but all in vain.

However, the hospital authorities have a different story to tell.

Speaking to ANI, Dr JS Sikarwar, said the patients were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition and there has been no report of power failure.

Sikwarar further alleged that the hospital has power back-up and in case of power failure, generators are switched on.

“I don’t think the patients died due to power failure that disrupted the oxygen supply. In fact, there was no power cut and there has been some misconception,” he said.

Congress Takes Stock of Deaths in Hospital

Sources told The Quint that the matter escalated after a local Congress leader, Prabudh Singh, started the protest outside the hospital.

While reports say all three patients died on Tuesday afternoon, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted condoling the death of two patients on Tuesday night.

"Two patients have died due to a power failure in a Gwalior hospital. May god give their families the courage to deal with this loss. One of the patients is in critical condition and I pray for his speedy recovery,” his tweet read.

As of 3:30 pm on Wednesday, the police said no FIR has been lodged in the matter.
