The Supreme Court had on 29 October, adjourned the Ayodhya matter for January 2019 for fixing a schedule of hearing by an appropriate bench.

A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph was hearing a batch of pleas challenging the Allahabad High Court's 2010 verdict by which the disputed land on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid area in Ayodhya was divided into three parts.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday, 23 December, said whenever Ram temple is constructed at Ayodhya it would be only by "us" and no one else and termed Hindu culture as India's only culture.

“Some people here were speaking about Ram Janmabhoomi. Friends, whosoever does this job or whenever this job is done, this job will be done by us, no one else will be able to do so.”
