Sheila Dikshit Likely to Take Over as Delhi Cong Chief: Report
Ajay Maken resigned from the post on Friday, 4 January.
Former Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, is likely to take over as the Delhi Congress President, said NDTV, citing a report. This development comes after Ajay Maken resigned from the post on Friday, 4 January.
Dikshit’s acceptance of a possible alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, reportedly furthered her chances of getting the post.
In December, 2018, amid talks of a possible partnership with AAP, the former CM had told ANI:
“The party will decide, the high command, Rahul Gandhi and all will decide and whatever they decide will be acceptable to all of us.”
On Friday, Ajay Maken resigned from the post of the Delhi chief, citing health reasons. Speculation is rife that Maken also had differences with the central leadership over possibilities of alliance with AAP.
Maken had also resigned in May 2017, but returned after Rahul Gandhi had asked him to.
