New Delhi, June 25 (IANS) The Congress on Tuesday hit out at the Narendra Modi government over its failure of filling over 45,000 vacant posts in the army due to "paucity of funds", terming it a matter of concern.
"The BJP government has admitted in Parliament that it has failed to fill up the army posts due to paucity of funds. It is a matter of strategic and national security concern. The Government will have to ensure that 45,634 vacancies of the Army are filled up at the earliest and the national security does not play out," Congress media in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a tweet attaching a news report.
His remarks came a day after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told the Rajya Sabha, in a written reply, that there were 45,634 vacancies in the Army as on January 1, 2019, including 7,399 posts above the rank of Lieutenant.
