British PM Cameron Announces 2017 as India-UK Year of Culture

The British Prime Minister has announced 2017 as the India-UK Year of Culture on the first day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Kingdom.

In a statement, Cameron announced an India tour of Shakespeare’s text of First Folio and Magna Carta from the year 1225.

The well known wax museum of Madame Tussauds will also make its New Delhi debut in 2017 and become home to new wax statues of Bollywood personalities.

The British Library will digitise 2,00,00 pages of South Asian archives.

Madame Tussaud’s parent company, Merlin Entertainment will invest £50 million in India over the next 10 years.

Merlin’s Sealife aquariums and Legoland discovery centres will come to Indian cities.

Two Centuries of Indian Print will be part of a major programme to make the wealth of Indian printed books held by the British Library dating from 1714 to 1914 accessible to anyone around the globe.

One of India’s premier museums - the CSMVS Mumbai - will tell the story of Indian civilisation in the context of world history. The British Museum will lend a few artefacts for the display.
