Gone are the days when you had to compulsorily work out of an office or a dedicated working space. Today, you could be commuting to work and still check or reply to work emails. Or if you’re meeting an associate at a café, you can finish your meeting and choose to work from the same café for the rest of the day. Stuck at the airport due to a flight delay? No problem! Just pop out your work tab, connect to the airport Wi-Fi and turn it into a fruitful work session. Work cultures are changing drastically. Present-day working styles are far more flexible and employee-friendly than they were a few years ago.

In many ways, the entire work ecosystem has evolved over the years and so have organisational policies. ‘Flexibility’ and ‘productivity’ are the operative words now and corporates have become more encouraging of measures that boost their employees' productivity. In other words, as long as the work is getting done, your boss wouldn't mind where you're working from. Technology has a big hand in this trend shift in the modern work culture, especially with the era of smartphones. People have become quite comfortable with using their phones for every work they need to do. Nishita Gupta, who works as a brand manager in Delhi, says “A lot of my work gets done on my phone. It's quite convenient as well, more so if you have a good internet connection like Airtel 4G. So mails can be replied to quickly, or I can get on Skype calls with my colleagues from other cities. Really, the phone has made getting work done a lot easier.”

Today, with a fully charged phone and good network with fast internet, you can pretty much work anytime and from anywhere. As mobile internet becomes faster and more reliable, it is making way for other types of professions - the ones where you can ditch traditional offices and work while pursuing your passion. A lot of youngsters are taking to freelancing, working while travelling or even entering the gig economy, where you prefer to take short-term assignments as opposed to permanent jobs. With a fast mobile network like Airtel 4G, you could be in the middle of nowhere and get your work commissioned. So whether you're a typical office-goer working on emails while on the move, or a professional blogger who live streams and uploads pictures on the go, you'll realise what a big boon strong mobile network can be.

Clearly, work paradigms today have changed and career choices have gotten bolder, broader and more adventurous. If organisations have realised that flexible work hours only enhance employee well-being, individuals are likely to get more and more experimental in terms of the profession they choose!
