This Kanpur Businessman Refills Oxygen Cylinders for Just Re 1
Yogesh Agarwal’s oxygen bottling plant in Kanpur is offering this service to people amid the severe oxygen shortage.
A shortage of oxygen cylinders in the country has become a problem that most common citizens are unable to tackle. Cylinders are extremely difficult to procure, and the ones that are available cost upwards of Rs 30,000.
Recognizing the difficulty and financial strain this puts most people in, a businessman from Kanpur, Yogesh Agarwal, is now offering to refill oxygen cylinders for a minimal cost of Re 1.
Agarwal is the owner of Kanpur-based Rimjhim Ispat Factory. Ever since the demand for oxygen has shot up, they have refilled upwards of 2,000 cylinders, and in the coming days, they expect the number to go up to 3,000.
Rimjhim Ispat is a company that uses oxygen to manufacture stainless steel. However, after they realized the seriousness of the crisis, they decided to divert their resources into refilling oxygen tanks for medical use.
In a statement to The Quint, Yogesh's daughter Garima Agarwal talks about how they came upon this idea. "Members of our family, along with the manager of the plant, Manoj Gupta, contracted COVID19 last year. After we saw how the bleak resources in Kanpur affected us, we decided to do something about it now that the shortage was so severe," said Garima.
The oxygen bottling plant is now seeing huge crowds from areas like Jhansi, Banda, Lalitpur, and Kanpur, among others where people are desperately looking for oxygen.
