In August 2017, when violence escalated in Myanmar's Rakhine state, more than 6,40,000 children and adults from the ethnic Rohingya minority community sought refuge in Bangladesh.

UNICEF has been actively involved in delivering life-saving supplies and services to these refugees. Keeping with the FIFA World Cup fervour, UNICEF shared an endearing video of two young football players from the Rohingya Muslims refugee camp in Balukhali, Bangladesh.

The friendly football challenge comprised five rounds, each one requiring specific skill-sets. The children put on their best show and we witnessed some amazing dribbling action and penalty shoot-outs.

“He’s my neighbor and my friend, so I’m happy whoever wins,” said one of the participants when asked about who is most likely to win. This is undoubtedly the best part of the video, apart from the humourous commentary of course!

The video is a fine example of the resolute spirit of these young children who display sportsmanship even in the midst of adversity.
