Neyappam, a syrupy sweet from South India is one of the surprising forerunners in the race to name the latest Android version!
Google recently announced that they were planning the latest Android version and invited people to suggest cool names for it, temporarily code-named Android N, reported The Mirror.
Following a tradition of naming its versions alphabetically with a dessert or sweet theme, M for Marshmallow was the name of Android 6.0.
And now, it is N’s turn to shine. Umm, we mean Neyappam’s turn to shine in 7.0
Though it originates in Kerala, Neyappam is also a favourite in Tamil Nadu, which is coincidentally the hometown of Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Kerala Tourism has gone all guns blazing on this idea which is sure to improve the exposure and reach of the coastal state, if Google does choose it.
While other states did try their hand at the game, suggesting Maharashtra’s nankhatai and the Bengali narkol naru, Neyappam has taken the lead and earned a place on the Android webpage, reports HuffPost.
The humble deep- fried snack made of rice flour, jaggery and ghee could very well be India’s next ambassador in the tech world.
