“We cannot accept court’s intervention in religious matters. We should follow directions from religious leaders,” said K Alikkutyy Musaliyar, the general secretary of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, a body of Sunni Muslim clerics and scholars, according to this report in The News Minute.
He also said that only men should be allowed to pray inside a mosque.
Musaliyar made this statement in reference to the Supreme Court hearing a plea to allow Muslim women to enter mosques to offer prayers, a plea made by a Pune-based Muslim couple.
Speaking to ANI, the husband, Zuber said:
We requested the police to help women who wanted to pray at (a) mosque, but the Jamaat didn’t allow. We were left with no option.Zuber Ahmad Nazir
Saying that it will hear the case only because of the Sabarimala verdict, the Supreme Court bench had also sent a notice to the Center, Waqf board and the All India Muslim Law board.
According to this report in The Times of India, the body of clerics had also said that they cannot accept the court’s intervention in matters pertaining to religion, adding that they had taken a similar stand when it came to Sabarimala.

Saying that the courts should intervene on religious matters only after consulting religious heads, Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, the grand mufti of Sunni-Sufi Muslim community in India and General Secretary of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama went on to say that Muslim women need only go to Mecca in keeping with tradition and that there was no need for them to enter other mosques to pray.
