“It is true that I'm a Muslim and I’m from Iraq... Just because 5 or 10 people are terrorists, does not make the whole religion terrorist. We are running from terror, so how are we terrorists?” asks Isra, a student at Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh. She moved to the US after fleeing the war in Iraq and Syria.
She is part of an initiative started by another fellow student Peyton Klein who started an after-school programme called 'Global Minds' to assist English as second language (ESL) students, most of them are refugees or immigrants from Syria, Iraq, Congo etc.
‘Global Minds’ focusses on activities for these students that are centered around human rights, diversity and sustainable development.
The school currently has students from 26 countries. 26 different countries
