Dear soldier,
I know that as I am writing this, you are standing strong at the border – somewhere, where even time freezes in extreme cold; where time flies away like sand in a desert. Like a wall, you stand strong wherever our motherland needs you to protect her and her children from the enemy.
Saying words of gratitude are barely enough, so just like a family member first asks, I will ask “how are you?" and "when will you be home?"
You are our real heroes because what you do is really an act of chivalry. You are our real leaders because you are the ones who are leading us from the front, and I salute you for that. We aren’t related but you are like family to us – the way you extend your precious hands to help us during natural calamities; at times, one’s own family members fail to do that.
The Republic Day, Independence Day and other such days are significant because of you. It is because of you, your commitment, your sacrifice and your selfless service that the nation breathes freely. While a lot of us are enjoying the warmth of a quilt this winter and spending time with our families, you remain awake at the frontline with watchful eyes.
My ‘Sandesh to a Soldier’ is that although we aren’t related by family, I await your safe homecoming. I wish you stay blessed and remain in good health.
