Hydration Hydration Hydration, Repeat after us!
Let us start with the basics first. To glow, your skin needs to be healthy from within and the basics of healthy skin are hydration. So start with drinking at least 2 litres of water daily to wash out all the toxins from your body and to restore all the water lost during the summer days while sweating. You can drink fruit infused water which is extremely easy to make on your own and it will give the benefits of water as well as, vitamins and minerals found in fruits. Use a fruit-infusing water bottle and add lemons or berries or oranges to your water .
Diet
During summer your diet should contain hydrating fruits and vegetables like zucchini, tomatoes and watermelons. Also, increase your intake of good fats like avocado, eggs and salmon. These will aid in repairing the skin and hair damage caused by heat.
Exfoliate your skin
Over time your skin collects a layer of sebum and dead skin that makes you look dull and often time causes acne by clogging the pores. So it’s very important to exfoliate your skin. Use a very gentle exfoliator on your skin once or twice a week to remove all the dead skin cells.
Not just your face but your body needs exfoliation as well. During summer you will be baring your arms and legs a lot and you don’t want them to look flaky and dry. So use a good sugar scrub on your body once or twice a week. You can make a DIY sugar scrub. Take fine granulated sugar, and add a few tablespoons coconut oil and a few drops of tea tree or any other essential oils in it and use this scrub all of your body and then moisturise well.
Use a gel-based moisturiser
Heavy creamy moisturisers will do more harm than good during summers. So opt for gel-based moisturisers during summers. You can use seaweed serum get or Aloe Vera gel, these will lock in moisture without making your skin too heavy or clogging pores.
Sunscreen
Just like moisturisers, you need a sunscreen that isn’t heavy and won’t clog your pores. So use a gel-based light sunscreen with a very high SPF, 50 or above. Make sure you apply this sunscreen at least once every 2-3 hours’ even if you are indoors. Also, pick out a sunscreen that has both SPF and UV protection.
Makeup to glow like a goddess
Once the health of your skin has been taken care off, it’s time to perfect your makeup game so that you glow like a goddess that you are. Bring out your lip and cheek tints and bronzers for that luminous glow and highlighter to make your cheekbones look like they are made of gold.
A bronzer is very important for Dusky beauties that will take your look from average to diva in seconds. Use a liquid bronzer on your shoulders and legs and for the face you can use a powder based bronzer.
Use a champagne coloured highlighter for normal Indian skin tones it goes really well with our Dusky complexion.
