Born in 1961, Arundhati Roy is an Indian author. She is best known for her novel The God of Small Things, which won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1997. This novel became the biggest-selling book by a non-expatriate Indian author. She is also a political activist involved in human rights and environmental causes.

Since publishing The God of Small Things in 1997, Roy has spent most of her time on political activism and nonfiction. She has been a very vocal advocate of several sensitive social topics.

Roy was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in May 2004 for her work in social campaigns and her advocacy of non-violence.

In January 2006, she was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, a national award from India's Academy of Letters, for her collection of essays on contemporary issues, The Algebra of Infinite Justice. She, however, declined to accept it "in protest against the Indian Government toeing the US line by 'violently and ruthlessly pursuing policies of brutalisation of industrial workers, increasing militarisation and economic neo-liberalisation'".

In November 2011, she was awarded the Norman Mailer Prize for Distinguished Writing.

Roy was featured in the 2014 list of Time 100, the 100 most influential people in the world.

Bill Connoly

Here’s who all you share your birthday with!

Sir William (BIll) Connolly, is a Scottish comedian and actor from Glasgow. He is sometimes known by the nickname "The Big Yin" ("The Big One"). Connolly's first job was as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards in early 1960s, but he gave it up towards the end of the decade to pursue a career as a folk singer. In the early 1970s, Connolly made the transition from folk-singer with a comedic persona to full-fledged comedian.

Connolly has also appeared in approximately 35 to 40 films.

Through his stand-ups, Connolly has offended certain sectors of audiences, critics and the media with his free use of the word "fuck" and jokes relating to masturbation, blasphemy, defecation, flatulence, haemorrhoids, sex, his father's illness, his aunts' cruelty and, in the latter stages of his career, old age.

He has been voted the greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups twice. He once again topped the list on Channel 5's Greatest Stand-Up Comedians broadcast on New Year's Eve 2013.

Since the 1980s, Connolly has worn a custom-made black T-shirt with a shirt-tail as part of his on-stage attire.

Born in Indore in 1935, Khan is an Indian actor and screenwriter. In Hindi cinema, Khan is best known for being one half of the prolific screenwriting duo of Salim-Javed.

He is the father of Bollywood actors Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan. He is currently married to two women, Sushila Charak (Salma Khan) and to actress Helen.

In the Javed-Salim duo, Salim used to form stories and plots whereas Javed used to develop the dialogues and occasionally the song-lyrics for those films. They used to brainstorm and come to conclusions regarding the final draft of the film. Their first big success was the script for Andaz.

The Salim-Javed duo were also notable for causing several changes in the way scriptwriters were perceived and treated within the film industry, including getting credits and more pay for writers. The duo also started the trend of having the same people write screenplay, story and dialogue.

He wrote scripts for thirteen films after his split with Javed Akhthar and has been a bit distant from the industry since, writing few scripts here and there. He has worked with his sons in quite a few projects recently.
