The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to form a principal committee to tackle the chikungunya and dengue menace.

The committee will comprise of the Commissioners of the North, South, and East Delhi Municipal Corporations, NDMC representatives, the Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Director General of Health Services (Delhi).

The tribunal has directed the principal committee to submit its report in the next 15 days.

NGT slammed NDMC for its delayed reaction to the spread of the disease and asked why weren’t the four civic bodies, DDA, and the Delhi government working together to come up with a solution.

The tribunal has asked all the concerned officials to meet at the NGT office to take stock of the steps taken by administration to tackle chikungunya and dengue.

NGT showed complete displeasure with the NDMC and asked them to not show “fabricated registers”.

NDMC had earlier assured the green tribunal that fumigation and checking breeding spots are under way at many places in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has decided to hear a plea filed by a doctor seeking proper steps to be taken to check chikungunya, dengue and malaria.
