The US Secretary of State John Kerry delayed his departure from India on Wednesday, prompting speculation about reasons for the same.

Kerry, who had been in India for a three-day-visit, was scheduled to leave at 5:30 pm. He will not leave for China either on Friday or Saturday, where he is supposed to join President Barack Obama for the G-20 Summit.

Deputy Spokesperson in State Department Mark Toner, said that the decision was taken to enable Kerry to travel to China for this weekend.

Kerry would now remain in the Indian capital until Friday or Saturday, when he will leave for the summit in Hangzhou. Kerry’s schedule for his remaining time in India is still to be determined.

Kerry arrived in India on Monday, 29 August, to co-chair the 2nd India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue. The two sides discussed important issues, including terrorism stemming from Pakistan.
