Agartala, March 21 (IANS) India will strengthen vigilance along the Bangladesh border to stop infiltration and border crimes, besides preventing inimical activities, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said on Wednesday.
"(Home Minister) Rajnath Singh said he would seek the feasibility of installation of CCTV cameras on the fencing along the India-Bangladesh border for better border management," Deb told the media.
"He also said that his Ministry would consider setting up the Central Control and Monitoring Rooms so as to prevent any illegal activities on the border," said Deb.
Singh said suitable steps will be taken for the better maintenance of the roads along the international borders.
"The border security and infrastructure along the frontiers must be strengthened to stop infiltration, border crimes and to prevent inimical activities," Singh was quoted as saying.
Deb and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma returned from New Delhi on Wednesday after meeting several leaders including President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Five Indian states - West Bengal (2,216 km), Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km), and Assam (263 km) - share a 4,096-km border with Bangladesh.
The mountainous terrain, dense forests and other hindrances make the unfenced borders porous and vulnerable, enabling illegal immigrants and intruders to cross over without any hurdle.
