The United Kingdom election results on Friday was a call for celebration for most liberals after a bleak 2016, with Brexit and the Republicans coming to power in the United States.
After only a few months of being the second female Prime Minister of the UK, conservative leader Theresa May failed to win a parliamentary majority in the election she had so confidently gotten, advanced by three years.
While liberals applauded their leader Jeremy Corbyn’s surge ahead in the polls, they didn’t leave misogyny too far behind in their celebrations.
Author JK Rowling pointed out that a “liberal” man, who she thought was “smart and funny”, had just chosen to call May a “whore”.
His reasons are unknown to us, but it’s safe to say it’s a favoured nomenclature men use for women in power and in the public space. Take a look at what Rowling has to say:
