From the quirky tale of a sperm donor in Vicky Donor to the realistic, modern take on the daughter-father relationship in Piku, Juhi Chaturvedi’s writing has been the backbone of these hit films.
With her slice-of-life characters, she has been an able support to filmmaker Shoojit Sircar but the writer, herself, has no intentions to don the director’s hat.
If everybody becomes a director, who will write? You need writers. I will always remain a writer. Let everybody else make films, I will just write.

She made her debut as a script-writer in Shoojit’s sleeper hit Vicky Donor in 2012, which starred debutant Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam and Annu Kapoor.
Juhi believes good writers were there earlier too but they are in the spotlight today because the story has become a focal point for the makers and audience.
There have been wonderful writers even in the past. It is not that the writers have suddenly become better, but writing has become everybodys focal point, which probably wasn’t happening earlier. The ones which were happening, we used to label them ‘art films’. Great content was there earlier too but it was not in abundance.
